Borrowing Privileges
The Markham Public Library has a collection of over 700,000 paperbacks, books, magazine and newspaper subscriptions, cassettes, CD-ROMs, music CDs, DVDs and videos.

- Maximum of 50 holds per customer.
- Please cancel holds no longer needed to increase availability of Library materials to others. You can do this by:
- Accessing your customer account through MPL's online catalogue OR
- Using the computers in the libraries OR
- Contacting your local branch OR
- calling TeleCirc, MPL's automated telephone system, at 905-474-5966
- You will be notified by TeleCirc automated telephone system when items are available for pickup. Holds must be picked up by the date indicated.
- Holds will be held for 5 days.
- You must bring the card on which the hold was placed.
- Available, upon request, for items that are not in demand.
- These loans are granted for absences such as vacations or hospital stays.
- Extended loans are available at the discretion of Library staff. We reserve the right to limit or deny extended loans on specific items.
- Items borrowed from Markham Public Library may be returned to any Markham Public Library Branch.
- If we don't have the books or microfilm that you are looking for, staff can request them from other libraries through the Interlibrary Loan Service.
- The total number of items that can be borrowed on a single library card at any one time is one hundred (100).
- Reduced loan periods apply to items with holds.
- There are no renewals on Express DVDs, Express Bestsellers, video games or magazines.
- All other items may be renewed (up to) 3 times provided there is no one waiting for the item. Items borrowed from Markham Public Libraries may be renewed:
- In person at any branch
- By calling the branches' Customer Service Desk
- Using the Library's online catalogue
- Using the TeleCirc automated telephone system at 905-474-5966
- The barcode number on your library card (and PIN also if using the catalogue) is required in order to renew items. Items must be renewed on or before due date to avoid service charges.
