Earth Hour 60

Earth Hour 60 began in Sydney, Australia in March, 2007. This year on March 28, 2009, close to 2400 cities, towns and municipalities in 83 countries around the world will encourage residents and business to turn out their lights from 8:30 pm-9:30pm. The Town of Markham is pleased to be part of this exciting campaign to raise awareness of global warming and highlight the importane of individual action to reduce carbon emissions.

Markham Energy Conservation Office (MECO)
Supported by the Town of Markham and Powerstream, MECO works to establish Markham as a leader in municipal energy conservation. MECO operates the No Catch to Conserve program for local business, supplies Watt Readers at all MPL branches, as well as coordinating the Town's Earth Hour activities.

Ontario Clean Air Alliance
Recognizing the need for reducing air pollution, including greenhouse gases, from the electricity sector, The Ontario Clean Air Alliance (OCAA) was formed in August, 1997. The OCAA is a diverse, multi-stakeholder coalition of approximately 90 organizations. Our members include cities, health associations, environmental and public interest groups, public utilities, unions, faith communities and individuals.
